Ore is a basic resource item, usually obtained by mining Asteroids.

Using a Hand Drill or ship-mounted Drill will destroy the rock and release the Ores as objects in the world to be collected.

Identifying ore patches purely by sight can be frustrating, especially if there are two similar ores next to one another such as Platinum and Silicon. It is for this reason that an Ore Detector is always highly recommended for the initial identification process. This will put the name of the ore on the HUD in approximately the center of the ore patch. However, once you have identified the vein you wish to obtain, it can often be more effective to rely on sight to guide your mining, and so a Spotlight is almost always useful for this purpose, to more easily see where one vein ends and another begins.

Color varies slightly.

Typically a matte midtone grey, the appearance of stone can vary a bit between brown and black. Red and Grey. Iron is fairly easy to identify due to being so common and in such contrast to the grey of the surrounding stone. Focus on looking for reddish, rust-colored areas if Iron is a priority. Nickel is a straight, flat, brown, which when it spawns next to Iron shows strikingly enough to be discernable.

Yellowish-Grey with Brown streaks. With a grey base, it can be difficult to discern from surrounding stone, so search for the distinct brownish-yellow bands. Rarity: 2. Rather distinct, Magnesium is not very hard to identify, but is fairly rare, so always keep a look out for the bluish hue! One of three greyish ores, Silicon can be the most difficult to spot due to how close its color and texture are to base stone.

Its color will often vary to a light grey, almost white sheen, so look for uncharacteristically light patches. Another grey ore, Silver can be differentiated between Platinum most by its contrast: dark areas are jet black, while highlights are bright white.

Very distinct. Can vary more to a grey-yellow in small patches or where it starts to mix with stone or iron. Can be hard to differentiate between this and stone or silicon. The most reliable distinction is the texture rather than color: stone and silicon have a rough look, while platinum is smooth. Jet black, very shiny. Hard to miss, even in shadow unless your server's Skybox has low light. Rarity: 4. While technically not a mineral, it behaves just like the other ores.

Scrap is acquired by drilling Blocks or grinding damaged blocks. Each Ore including Stone yields some sort of useable Material once it has been refined within a Refinery or Basic Refinery. Each Ore except for Stone has exactly one type of Material that it produces, at various rates of efficiency; e.Space Engineers has been available for quite a few years now and been at least semi-popular for all of that time.

With the game out that long, especially one as intricate and creative as a game like Space Engineersit's no wonder it's gathered quite the modding community. There are a ton of different mods out there, from ones that just change the game aesthetically to ones that fundamentally change the way the game is played.

There is always something new to do in Space Engineers because of the open-ended nature of it; as a wise man once said, 'There's always a bigger fish.

But sometimes, you simply need more options to keep things fresh and interesting. These mods add a variety of different things to the game, from new mechanics, more NPCs, a change to existing functions, and so on, while still keeping the game with the same feel that it's always had.

Seriously, like, really deep down there. This makes mining a bit more interesting and forces you to be a bit more creative with your mining ships, all in all adding a bit more variety to the game. Mod created by Ghostnd!

This mod is almost a must-have for those control freaks out there. Mod created by Digi! There's a lot of tedious busywork in Space Engineers. There are those that would argue that's a strength of the game; it's a good way to relax and spend some real time making something cool.

But, some don't have that kind of time or the desire to spend that long on a project, and for those people, there are Nanites. These Nanite's can be programmed to do different things, from construction, repair, deconstruction, and more.

Mod created by Nukeguard, Fank, and Splen! The NPC encounters in the default version of Space Engineers are a bit lacking, but the thought of not being entirely alone in the universe is pretty enticing. For those who like those cool encounters, this mod adds a bunch more of them to the game, making for a much less lonely experience.

What does this mod? This Mod is a simple edit of the planet generation which spawns the ore deposits much deeper under the surface of each planet and moon. Additional to this are the deposits much larger to provide a real use for mining stations instead of just flying around in a mining ship and farm ores.

Even open pit mines have now a reasonable point to been build! From now on you have to search for ore longer and deeper as normally. Survival will be a real challenge now! Where to find the different ores?Released Jun 20th, Ranked 1, of 24, with 10 1 today downloads.

The benefit of this approach is a mod with 2 positive ratings will not outrank one with 10 positive ratings but 2 negative. Nor will a mod with tons of rankings outrank everything unless most of the ratings are positive.

Ratings range from overwhelmingly positive to overwhelmingly negative. The color changes depending where on the scale the mod fits. Explore more items. Edit links. Each Ore once mined from an ore vein from an AsteroidMoonor Planet is in a very impure form that is mixed up with other elements and contaminated with impurities not suited for fashioning into useful Componentsthe Refinery for lack of a better word Refines the ores into their pure forms much like Smelting.

Since the Ores are riddled with impurities most of the Ore will be processed away leaving behind only the base element. Each type of ore has their own ratio of impurities and the time necessary to remove. In addition to this every type of Refiner RefineryBasic Refinery also has their own ore efficiency ratio and refining speed.

The factors in determining the yield of any given quantity of ores being turned into useful materials is as follows:. Using this we can estimate the yield of 50 kg of Nickel Ore to come out to 20 kg of processed Nickel Ingot, since:.

When you add modules, the Refinery's Control Panel will show the adjusted percentages. The Refinery block itself has eight attachment points for modules, all on the flat grey side.

Each module can occupy up to two attachment points. Increase the number of ingots you get for a given quantity of ore. This also has the effect of producing ingots faster.

It does not affect ore consumption rate, nor does it affect power consumption. Their influence is cumulative, so three attachment points give 1.

This means that maximizing Effectiveness will generate twice as many ingots from a given volume of ore. Note however that a refinery cannot produce more ingots than it consumes ore. Maximum Effectiveness would give us a theoretical yield of 0. For most ores this isn't an issue though. This does not yield 5 times the refinement speed, however. A Refinery has a base refining speed of 1. So the maximum Productivity boost actually yields about 4 times the base refining speed, rather than 5 times.

This really makes a big difference in making the world feel pretty lively and, once again, gives ample opportunity to carve a name for yourself as an infamous space pirate.

I mean, you could be nice and let them be on their way, too, but let's not pretend that's what's really going to happen, here.
